I’ve posted photos from my interactive project & have received some amazing feedback. Thanks to you all. I thought it was time to meet he man behind the visuals, behind the interactivity & the sensor suit.

Ladies & Gentlemen, I present Oscar Sol:

1. How did you start making Interactive Art?

In 2007 i start playing with a software for rea ltime video manipulation called Isadora, that among
many other things allows you to work with interactivity using a video camera. The same year i travel
New York City to do an internship with the multimedia dance company who creates this software,
Troika Ranch.

2. How did you conceive the idea for the Body Sensor Suit? Describe how the Sensor Suit works.

After the intership with Troika Ranch i did a beta testing phase of a new wireless
sensor device called Miditron. This device allows to attach different kind of sensors to a performer,
and get the sensor data information in real time into a computer to be analyze.

3. What are your artistic influences? Are they scientific & technological as well as visual?

I try to don’t have them and find my way, even that the tool I’m using now for my work (Max/Msp)
and the kind of visuals i do have a well long time defined aesthetics from where is difficult run away, but I’m trying…
I’m focus in generative visuals, this means that i never use prerecorded video so all is synthetic computer
graphics generated in real time and this is what allows a good real time interacivity.

4. Describe the project you were working on With Chrisitian Vogel for this year’s Sonar festival.

We are doing a visual set for the opening of Sonar Festival with the classical ensemble BCN216.
yep!! Sonar starts with a non electronic concert!!

Here the interaction will come from the musicians of the ensemble, most of them will have a microphone
so we can do a realtime audio analysis of each instrument and attach them to different visual parameters.
The basic idea is that the movement and transformations of the visuals are done in live by the ensemble.

5. Are there any other interactive artists you are into?

Troika Ranch, Frieder Weiss and Klaus Obermaier

6. What’s your most memorable performance?

I cant say… because all of them are memorable. But in all of them i try always to have a memorable moment…
i like to find and have a breaking point in the performances, something unexpected that surprise the audience,and
makes a little murmur in the hall. I keep this moment from all the performances.
