Nan Goldin at Tate Modern 26 May 2008
Last night I took part in an extraordinary performance at the Tate Modern. It was the screening of Nan Goldin’s ‘The Ballad of Sexual Dependency,’ with live music by my dear friend, Patrick Wolf.
I can’t describe how moving the experience of it was. The audience sat cross legged filling the dense space that is the Turbine Hall, silent and still as the slides projected on the giant screen. It was sold out, but no one made a sound.
Patrick’s music illustrated Nan’s photograph’s with a deep and emotional precision. As the images of gravestones appeared and Patrick sang ‘Stars,’ with his sister, Jo Apps, the tears filled my eyes.

It was an honour to have been involved.
Special thanks to Stuart Green, Stuart Comer and last but not least, Nan Goldin.
