SIRKUS at FRIEZE!!! 20 October 2008
Last week the annual Frieze Art Fair hit Regent’s park, London with its usual array pr art, parties and some strange Asda stlye lighting which was NOT flattering.
I saw some interesting stuff and some even greater Plastic Surgery work on the faces of the various Hedge Fund Wives.
I loved the Cabinet Art Gallery’s stand. It was an enclosed space filled with projections and collages, that only the sharpest art hunters could find. It was like an alternative Santa’s Grotto, had Santa been a post-modern, ultra hip conceptualist.
However, the mot fabulous thing was the Sirkus Bar. Sirkus is a bohemian artist run bar in Rekjyavic, Iceland. It’s a bit like The George and Dragon in Shoreditch with lots of mad Icelandic folk art paintings on the walls.
It was flown over, brick by brick especially for frieze and had live performances, gabba bands and random wrestling matches to films of people simulating sex.

I had a great time getting twatted on Calpol style shots. It was brilliant. A total slap in the face in the bore of the credit crisis and almost the antithesis of the corporate sponsors of the fair!

Hi, Frieze was fun. I wanted to check out the Sirkus bar, but the queues were crazy. My fav piece has to be the Zeppelin made of concrete. When your next in Shoreditch, come by Rivington Place (iniva gallery), it would be a pleasure to show you round the building and our latest exhibition by Donald Rodney.
By the way, I was the black guy in the grey jacket who said hi to you today (25/10/08) on Charing x rd.
* Bishi says * Hey Ola - ah yes I remember - thanks for the invite to the Iniva Gallery - I would love to come - hope to see you soon. Bishi :)
