BISHI AT LATITUDE 23 July 2009

I had the pleasure of performing at Latitude 2009.

As well as playing The Lake Stage with the band, I performed Salome in the Film Arena with composer Neil Kaczor and Zongamin, pictured above.

We had a spectacular introduction from the hot and hip sword swallower Miss Behave.

We are all pictured above by the wonderful Paula Harrowing.

Here are some shots from the actual performance.

I’d like to thank all my crew, all at Latitude, Huw Stephens and The Birds Eye View for all their support. See you next year!

BISHI WEEK UPDATE 03 June 2009

Afternoon all!

Besides working on my new single ‘One Nation,’ and experimenting with FX Pedals on my Sitar, I certainly had a jam packed week!

I went to a fantastic Moondog tribute Concert at the Barbican. The evening starred collaborations and interpretations from the plethora of music from ‘The Viking of Sixth Avenue,’ including a world premiere of ‘Salzburg Symphony No. 3’ – an homage to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Guest stars included London Saxophonic, The Britten Sinfonia, Lightspeed Champion, Gruff Rhys and Andi Toma of Mouse on Mars.

Despite a lengthy set change the absoloute smash of the evening was Clinic, with their particular interpretations. They were totally bang on. I wouldn’t mind nicking their drummer!

It’s only on for a few more days but do try and catch the KUNIYOSHI exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Kuniyoshi was a popular artist of the late 19thC and should be classed in the same league as Hokusai and Hiroshige. He was also known for pioneering techniques in woodcut printing. His popularity surged throughout Japan as his prints cost the equivalent of two bowls of soba noodles!

He picked a range of subjects including myths, warriors, Courtesans and some really excellent Comic Erotic prints.

I couldn;t find any but just imagine something that looks like Gonzo from The Muppets with a penis for a head and nose!!!!

Monday June 1st saw the release of the fourth studio album, from my dear friend, Patrcik Wolf, called ‘The Batchelor.’ It is released through Bandstocks on his own ‘Bloody Chamber Music,’ imprint.

The album features collaborations from the likes of Tilda Swinton and Alec Empire and is gaining a warm reaction from critics and fans alike. Please buy the record and send him up the top of the charts where he deserves to be!

The two photographs opening and closing this diary entry are taken by Anthony Lycett for a book called ‘The World’s Most elegantly Dressed.’ Check out is work on

I am wearing an outfit that was named in my honour; ‘The Bishi Pants,’ by Ada Zanditon.

All the best for now!

BISHI at CECIL SHARPE HOUSE 11 May 2009

Inspired by the traditional folk song, ‘Flash Company,’ this is a textile exhibition with handkerchiefs from a diverse range of artists, from the likes of Cathy Lomax and Billy Childish.

My Own Contribution was in collaboration Giles Pearson. Giles has designed for the likes of Beth Ditto, Roisin Murphy and The House of Blue Eyes.

It’s a beautiful building, well worth catching and it’s free!
