Salome - LIVE soundtrack Saturday March 5th 03 March 2009

A visionary & highly stylized adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s play this, the 1st US Art film, was made in 1923. With costumes by Rudolph Valentino’s wife (Natacha Rambova), exaggerated acting (even for the period) & a cast of weird & wonderful characters (you’ll see some familiar disco faces) its the perfect project for Bishi’s first feature length soundtrack.

The mesmeric Alla Nazimova, lesbian Hollywood icon, plays Salome. When the Prophet Jokaanan rejects her advances, Salome persuades her step-father Herod to kill him through her entrancing dance. Relish in the exuberant performances, wonderful costumes and Audrey Beardsley-inspired sets by Natacha Rambova.

Commissioned and presented as a part of the Birds Eye View film festival
(in association with The British Film Institute) Bishi & composer Neil Kaczor have created a new score by weaving Bishi songs with original work. Performed live by Bishi and the band in front of the large screen at NFT1 on the Southbank this is an event not to miss.
